What is eRank? and RESULTS from my Etsy shop using eRank (2024)

If you’ve been researching options to improve your Etsy listing’s ranking, you’ve most likely heard of eRank or formerly called Etsy Rank. The founder Anthony Wolf saw his wife struggling to get more views on her Etsy listings, and he thought that he could use his own programming skills to understand how Etsy works and build a tool that would help people use SEO appropriately. When his wife’s sales started to improve, he realised he could offer other people these tools too, and so he launched EtsyRank in January of 2016.

I’ve been using eRank for over a year now and I absolutely love it. Best of all, the tool is completely free. I have the Pro version and I’ll explain why below but I used the free version for many months before I upgraded.

What is eRank?

Think of eRank like a dashboard that shows you different metrics. You can look at different tabs of the dashboard and get ideas of how to improve your Etsy shop, what new products you should add to your shop, and what is trending across Etsy.

These are the things that eRank prides itself on:

• Help you find long tail keywords that buyers are searching for on several buying marketplaces
• Monitor other sellers to see how you’re doing with the competition
• Monitor your own listings and see how different changes improve your ranking
• Understand Etsy SEO and make the right improvements.

I would also add that the search volume information that it shares in its “keyword tool” section helps you pick the right products to launch in your shop. I always look there before I invest time in a new product.

Getting started with Erank

First of all, head over to Erank and create a free account. Before even linking your account, you’ll be able to see the top store for every category on Etsy. You’ll also be able to see how many sales every store has, and who’s at the top in your niche. You can also keep track of the top sellers, see what is trending and even see where all your followers are from.

• There are different tools within the dashboard that help you with your SEO. I love this tool – go to the Keywords Tool page, input some keywords and check out search volume on Etsy for those keywords. I used this tool to determine that safari nursery wall art was the most popular in terms of search volume this year. I like checking search volume using eRank before I waste my time making a product that no one is actually searching for on Etsy.
• Another useful tool is the Rank Checker. This tool lets you input a keyword and then see your competition, demand and engagement for that keyword. It’ll also tell you how optimised your listing is and even whether others are paying for advertisem*nts for those keywords.

eRank vs eRank Pro

The #1 feature that I think you’re getting in eRank Pro is the “trend buzz” report which gives you information on trending searches on Etsy each month. I sell printables on Etsy so this helped me learn that graduation announcements were a product with a strong number of searches.

You can go back to see previous year trend information and assume that most of the seasonal products will be popular again. You can view this information by Etsy category so I check out the paper section but you can see specifically what was trending for your section.

The trend information is also available for Pinterest searches too and we all know how Pinterest and Etsy go together like peanut butter and jelly! I find all of this data super helpful and fascinating.

How I use eRank

There are basically three main things I do in eRank once per week.

1. I use the keyword tool and get an idea of search volume of potential products I might make
2. I check out trend buzz and see what is trending
3. I see how my shop is doing compared to my competitors and note what I can improve

You can do 2 out of these 3 things with the free version of eRank. You need the Pro version to do #2.

Erank for Etsy

Erank focuses a lot on your entire listing, and how to improve the SEO as a whole. First of all, they look at your title: your title needs to match your keyword as close as possible. Tags have a limit of 20 characters, so they also encourage you to maximize titles for long tail keywords.

Tags are an important part of the listing since they help the search function to understand what your product does. The more specific your tag is, the less competition there is. Tags allow you to describe your product to a much more specific point.

Erank helps you figure out the best keyword to get your listing ranking, as well as comparing your listing and keywords to other sellers.

Pricing

Erank is 100% free! They also offer a premium version, however the free version still offers very useful tools. The Pro plan is $9.99 per month and includes 200 lookups in the keyword tool per day. There is no way you will need more than 200 lookups in one day unless you are a business or plan to use this tool for multiple hours. I’m about done after 15 lookups MAX!

The PRO version also offers a more advanced Keyword Explorer, the Trend Buzz, Delivery Status as well as better versions of the Rank Checker and Listing Audit.

Erank vs Marmalead

Marmalead is Erank’s competitor, and offers similar tools to Erank. They also have listing audits and tools to control your SEO on Etsy. Marmalead’s dashboard is slightly more complex and advanced.

The main similarities are that both Erank and Marmalead give you a grade from A to F, to rank the SEO on every one of your listings. With both, you can see the number of searches you’re getting and the different engagement levels – although you’ll need the PRO version of Erank for that (with Marmalead you’ll already be paying).

Erank’s main feature is to focus on your entire listing. Erank looks at your attributes, tags, title and description. Marmalead focuses on the keyword themselves: are they relevant, do they have high engagement, are they long-tail, etc. They both offer insights to help your listing’s ranking and improve your SEO grade.

Both platforms have a tool that tracks keywords over time (helpful for tags that are seasonal). You can easily see what are the most popular tags, compare various keywords and see what keywords are trending from time to time. With Erank PRO you can also track your competitors and see how their sales, listings and tags are doing.

If you’re unsure which to pick, we recommend starting with Erank since it has a free version which still has quite a lot to offer. Once you see how the SEO improves your Etsy listings, you can then choose to go a bit further with one of the platforms.

Erank offers many tools and information for sellers to improve the ranking of their listings. By ranking higher on Etsy, your listings will get more views and your sales and revenue will increase. It’s a free tool, so you won’t lose anything by simply signing up and trying for yourself.

Where does my Etsy shop rank?

eRank will tell you where your Etsy shop ranks as a percentage like you are in the top 5% on sellers on Etsy. It will also show you who has the top sales and you can track specific shops and how they are doing.

This is very helpful to see what is trending on Etsy right now and what products customers want from your competitors.
